Darklord's Story

Chapter 2

With the storm over, the morning was bright and warm with sunshine. The midwive decided it was time to head to the village and inform everyone of the death of Jakindra and the birth of her baby boy.

She wrapped the baby in a warm blanket and headed out to her horse and wagon. She secured the baby in a little seat she had had built next to her for babies. She then whistled and strapped the horses and started on her way to the village.

It took them about 30 minutes to reach the village, but was surprised when she reached it. She stopped the wagon and gasped at what she saw. The village had been totally destroyed. The buldings had been burned, some were still burning. There were body parts everywhere, dead animals but there didn't appear to be any dead children. She hoped they had escaped to safety.

She slowly motioned the wagon in along the path, trying hard not to run over any bodies. As she thought maybe whatever had done this was still around, she quickly left town, determined to get herself and the baby to saftey. She only knew of one place, one person who could protect them and possibly knew what had happened to the village.

As it got closer to dawn, it had to get back to the safety of its cave. The rain had stopped and the sun would soon be out. Right now in its weakened state, the sun would be a threat. So it quickly gathered the childern of the village and brought them back to the cave for feasting on. To prevent anyone from the village of coming after it or letting other villages know, it burned every building, every last inhabitant and then left with the children to its cave.

It quickly killed each child, cutting their throats and then hung them from the ceiling for later. As it was growing tired, it laid down to rest of the day.

It had been a short trip to the tower in the woods. Here lived a great wizard, whos power was known through out the land. He had done many great things for the people around him and had protected them for centuries. But why he didn't help the people of the village was unknown.

She climbed off her wagon and took the baby to the door. When she got to it, it opened for her. "Enter" called out a voice from inside. She obeyed and went inside. The door closed behind her. It was dark, with barely enough light to see. But she had been here before, many times, and knew to the stairs were just a head of her. She quickly climbed them, one by one, with the baby in her arms. When she reached the top, she came to yet another door, half opened. "Come inside Ms Violet," said an old voice from inside the room. Again she obeyed and entered the room.

It was a large room, rather messy. The walls were lined with old, wooden bookshelfs, and covered in books and tricates. They were also very dusty and looked like they hadn't been used or cleaned in decades. This was no surprise, as it was said this wizard had been around for over 2000 years. Standing at a wooden table in the middle of the room, was an old man. He wore a dark blue cloak which went down to his feet. His hair and beard were very long, both passing his waist and as white as the snow in winter. He had a wringled face, but gentle. Everytime Ms Violet seen him, she was always afraid he would fall down or pass out or something, but deep down she knew he was probably much stronger then she was or ever would be.

"Sorry to disturb you sir, but have you seen whats happened to the village? Do you know who or what did it? I thought it was maybe the dragons, but they haven't attacked any villages for centuries" said Ms Violet, nervously.

"Dragons, no. They have left these lands many decades ago and would never do such a thing unless provoked" said the old wizard in an old, gentle voice.

"So do you know what happened to it?" She asked

"Something of great power, evil," answered the wizard. He looked up for the first time and seen the women was carrying a baby. His eyes widened and he asked, "May I see the baby you have brought?" The women nodded and handed the baby to him. He held the baby and then unwrapped the blanket. He looked at the babies legs and arm. When he found the mark on the babies arm, his eyes widened. It had come true. After 2000 years, the prophecy had finally come true. But he knew with the birth of this child, came an evil into the world and destruction would soon follow. He knew that this child had to be protected at all costs and hidden until it was of age to help. It would be decades and many lives would be lost, but he had no choice.

"This child must be protected at all costs. He must be taken far from this place and hidden until he can be properly trained" said the wizard.

"What do you mean?" asked Ms Violet.

"2000 years ago, a great evil had roamed these lands. It destroyed everything it saw, it caused chaos and great despair. One day, a man was able to trap this evil and send it to hell. However, in doing so, he was killed. It was later foretold by a prophet, that when 2000 years had gone by, a child of great power would be born, but with it, great evil would be unleashed and cause destruction around the world. It was said that this child would be our only hope in defeating this evil once and for all" said the wizard.

"I beg your pardon sir, but how do you know its this child?" asked Ms Violet.

"Because he bears the mark of The Order," said the wizard and he pointed to the birthmark on the childs arm. "Until now, I was the last of The Order. 2000 years ago, that evilness had destroyed The Order by killing every wizard. Only a few of us had survived, but over the years, they all died. I am the last surviving member of The Order."

"So, this evilness that was unleashed, destroyed the village?" asked Ms Violet.

"Yes. Now we must move quickly, for it will be a long journey" said the Wizard.

"I can't go. I must go back to the village to see if my family is still alive" said Ms Violet.

"I am sorry. But everyone in the village will be dead. The children would have been taken to the evil's lair. You will never see them again. I am sorry" said the wizard.

"NOOO" and with that, the women fell to her knees crying. She didn't want to believe her family was dead. Her children, gone. She wanted to die. The wizard put a hand on her shoulder and said in a gentle voice, "I am sorry for your loss, but this child needs you. With the death of this child's mother, he too is alone. And although he will never be able to replace your children, you both can care for each other." The women looked up at the wizard and then to the child, tears running down her cheeks. She stood up and took the child into her arms. She looked down at the childs face. His face was so innocent and she nodded. "I will raise this child as my own. His name will be Christien. If my home has been destroyed, then I have nothing left so when do we leave?" she asked.

"I will pack a few things and then we will head to Duplium forest which is a few days journey" said the wizard. And with that, he started packing a few things.

They both went down to the bottom of the tower and outside was the wizards wagon. It was big wooden wagon, drawn by 4 horses. It had a square top over it with the mark of The Order on the sides. They quickly filled it with food and supplies. The wizard had also taken many books and tricates which the woman couldn't even identify. But he said they would all be needed. They then turned the womans wagon onto its side and strapped her two horses to the wizards wagon, so it was now drawn by 6 horses. With the extra 2 horses, they would move much quicker.

Ms Violet had attached the baby seat to the wizards wagon and together they climbed inside. They sat on the front bench, the wizard directing the horses. The baby sat directly behind them, asleep. And so they were on their way to Duplium forest. It was protected by fairies and would be the safest place for them. There Christien could receive his training and the evil could not touch them.
